What You Need to Know About CoolSculpting Side Effects

Home » CoolSculpting® & Fat Reduction » What You Need to Know About CoolSculpting Side Effects

#1: Odd Sensations During Treatment

Some people report an odd “tugging” sensation at the treatment area during their procedure. Others describe slight warming and cooling sensations that cause a “tingling” or “tickling” feeling. The exact sensation varies from person to person and depends on the area being treated and the patient’s perception.

If odd sensations worry you, discuss it with your provider before treatment. At Dermacare of Hampton Roads, we put your outcome and comfort above all else and can help you have a great experience.

#2: Minor Irritation at the Treatment Area

Some common side effects of CoolSculpting include pain, stinging, aching, or irritation at the treatment area after the procedure. It’s typical for any minor irritation to begin soon after treatment, and it can last for a week or two after. Some people report minor redness, swelling, tenderness to the touch, tingling or itching, or slight bruising. Any such side effects usually dissipate within 3-11 days and don’t require any special treatment.

#3: Intermittent Tenderness

One of the most common CoolSculpting side effects is intermittent tenderness to touch after the treatment. Tenderness can last for a few weeks after a session. Some patients achieve relief through the use of compression garments, others by wearing loose-fitting clothing over the treatment area. Motrin or Tylenol can be taken as needed to relieve tenderness or minor occurrences of discomfort.

The colder winter months are a great time to schedule a CoolSculpting session. In-fashion clothing lends itself to wearing loose fitting clothes that cover the treatment area, so any short-lived side effects can remain undetected by others.

CoolSculpting results can be visible as early as a few weeks with full results showing approximately three months after final treatment. An early spring session can be a great bodysculpting boost with maximum results manifesting just before summer!

CoolSculpting is Safe and Effective

While many minor side effects can be reported and vary from person to person, most patients don’t have to change their routine or change their normal daily activities. CoolSculpting is a safe and effective treatment, but it is not intended to be a treatment for obesity. It is designed to eliminate small amounts of excess body fat and “sculpt” hard-to-target areas that diet and exercise alone cannot reach.

CoolSculpting can cause serious complications for people with cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, and paroxysmal cold hemoglobulinuria. Always discuss your medical history and any pre-existing conditions with a qualified medical professional before deciding on whether or not CoolSculpting is the right treatment option for you. Our highly trained team of medical experts can discuss your concerns and help you with making the best decision.
