Acne & Acne Scarring
Acne occurs when the body is producing too much oil and sebum from the sebaceous glands, and the pores become clogged with debris, which is mainly the patient’s own dead epidermal cells. Then the p. acne bacteria thrives inside these clogged pores causing an infection that results in a red pustule or lesion.
Dermacare Hampton Roads offers solutions that calm the sebaceous glands so they can produce less oil and sebum. We also strip away the dead epidermal cells, cleaning out the pores and preventing new clogs as the primary debris eliminated. Finally, our acne focused treatments also help to kill the p. acne bacteria so that cause of the infection itself is greatly reduced.
What Causes Acne?
Acne is an inflammatory process resulting from abnormal desquamation of the sebaceous glands (oil glands) in the skin. The combination of oil and dead skin cells clogging the pore creates the perfect environment for a certain type of bacteria to proliferate. Clogged pores, along with the presence of bacteria, encourage an inflammatory process in the skin resulting in the red, pustular appearance of acne. There can be secondary causes of acne as well. Our team of physicians, nurses and master aestheticians is here to help you identify those causes to design a skin protocol to clear current breakouts, and prevent future breakouts. We can also reduce the appearance of acne scarring!
