As we age, our skin starts to change. Many people start to develop wrinkles on the face, neck, and even hands. Skin may also start to lose its fullness and elasticity. The good news is that we have a number of products and treatments available to us today to combat those signs of aging. Today we’re going to share our favorite in-office treatments to make your hands look younger! We’ll also cover helpful information on what you can do at home to keep your hands looking young.
There are many professional treatment options for addressing aging hands. They range in price and in treatment approach, and not all of them may be right for you. (Which is why we always recommend a consultation.)
At DermacareHR, we have many different approaches to help hands look younger. Here are some of the best options for improving the texture and wrinkles of the hands.
BBL SkinTyte – This procedure utilizes pulsed light technology to deeply heat your skin while cooling and protecting the entire treated surface. It’s great for promoting the production of collagen and elastin in the skin! It can typically be completed in 30 minutes or less and has zero downtime. The end result? Tighter, less wrinkly skin. Wave bye-bye to aging skin, and say hello to more youthful hands.
Exilis Ultra – One of our “go to” systems for skin tightening and rejuvenation. Exilis Ultra works by combining radio frequency (RF) and ultrasound energies to tighten and promote the production of collagen and elastin. It’s a great system that delivers consistent results for a wide variety of patients of various ages and skin types.
Laser CoolPeel – This treatment is a new fractional CO2 laser treatment that quickly, safely, and comfortably delivers some of the benefits of a traditional CO2 laser resurfacing treatment without too much social downtime. By targeting just the superficial layer of skin tissue, damaged skin is sloughed, revealing younger, healthier-looking skin.
Halo – Our Halo treatment is completely customizable and precisely targets skin damage due to sun exposure and our body’s natural aging process. It’s great for improving both the pigmentation and texture of the skin. Patients who are already completing this treatment on their face can opt to do an add-on for their hands.
Filler – If the appearance of tendons and veins has you hiding your hands in photos, don’t worry! Our Dermacare Experts can use filler to soften the appearance of the hands and add volume to areas that have lost it over the years. Check out this video of our provider Trisha for an up-close demonstration!
Improving the pigmentation of the skin can make a world of difference for restoring a youthful appearance. Often age spots and sun damage can so slowly creep up over the years that many people don’t notice until it’s more pronounced. Here are some of the best professional treatments to address pigmentation of the hands.
BBL FotoFacial – Who said you can’t get a “facial” on your hands? Not us! The BBL FotoFacial is an advanced IPL (intense pulsed light) technology. It works by targeting the brown and red chromophores in the skin, lifting and breaking up pigmentation, and decreasing diffuse redness. It’s great for addressing age spots and sun damage.
Laser CoolPeel – As we mentioned above, CoolPeel can help with any texture or wrinkle concerns, but it’s also a fantastic option for lifting brown spots and sun damage. It’s a quick, great way to even out skin tone on the hands to restore a more glowing, youthful appearance.
Light Chemical Peel – Yes, you read that right! Light chemical peels are great for many areas of the body—especially the hands. This treatment will exfoliate the outermost layer of the skin on your hands to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin’s overall texture while balancing pigmentation.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! (Did we mention moisturizing?) Get in the habit of using a hand cream after you wash your hands to lock in moisture. At night, we also recommend using a moisturizer to protect and replenish your hands while you sleep. (Moisturizing at night can also help keep the fabric from your bed sheets from slowly absorbing your skin’s natural oils throughout the night.) A moisturizer that contains a retinol, lactic acid, or glycolic acid can also go a long way to helping maintain and/or restore a youthful appearance of the hands.
You should also be applying sunscreen daily to ALL the parts of your body exposed to UV rays. Yes, this includes your hands! Applying sunscreen to your hands can help prevent or slow skin aging due to sunlight. Make sure that you reapply sunscreen after you’ve washed your hands to ensure you’re fully protected.
In addition to sunscreen, we highly recommend applying a vitamin C serum such as AlumierMD’s EverActive C&E + Peptide to the hands as part of your morning routine. To put it simply, if it’s good enough for your face, it’s good enough for your hands!
