Everything you need to know about an Upneeq upper eyelid lift!

Have you heard about an eyelid lift in a bottle? If you thought it was too good to be true—get ready for Upneeq! Upneeq is an FDA-approved prescription eye drop that can help lift the upper eyelid without surgery. Today we’re going to dive into what Upneeq does, who it’s for, and how you can get your hands on it if you’re interested in trying it out for yourself.

First things first…

What is Upneeq?

Upneeq is a prescription eye drop that can be used once per day (every day or just for special occasions) to help address acquired ptosis or low-lying lids. It works by contracting the superior tarsal muscle, a.k.a. the Muller muscle. The Muller muscle is the muscle above the eye that helps keep the upper eyelid elevated. Upneeq engages this muscle, resulting in lifted upper lids and more open eyes! This can help patients look more awake, refreshed, and younger. Upneeq can also brighten the whites of the eye.

Upneeq’s effects are noticeable in about 15 minutes and last 8-12 hours on average.

Who is a good candidate for Upneeq?

Good candidates for Upneeq include those who suffer from low-lying eyelids (acquired ptosis). This is not to be confused with excess eyelid skin or naturally hooded lids. Acquired ptosis is a condition that affects adults of all ages, but occurs more often later in life when the eyelid muscles have stretched and weakened, causing the upper eyelid to droop. It’s important to remember that acquired ptosis may be caused by other issues, such as cataract surgery, contact lens wear, or an underlying medical condition. It could also be a sign of a more serious medical condition.

As with any new prescription, an in-person consultation will need to be completed with one of our Dermacare medical staff. During your visit, you’ll receive a thorough exam of the area and you’ll be asked about your symptoms, current medications, and your medical history. If it is determined that Upneeq is right for you, a sample will be administered so you can see how exactly you respond. If you love it, a prescription for Upneeq would be electronically submitted, and the product quickly ships right to your door!

Does Upneeq have side effects?

As with any medication, some patients may experience adverse side effects. During your consultation, your Dermacare medical staff will cover what to expect and what to look for. Common adverse reactions, reported in 1-5% of patients, included eye inflammation, eye redness, dry eye, blurred vision, eye pain at time of use, eye irritation, and headache.
