There are a lot of things you can’t do when you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. While some things may seem like no brainers (no raw fish), knowing what medspa services are safe may be harder to ascertain. But don’t worry! Our Dermacare Experts care deeply about the safety and well-being of all our patients. Today we’re going to cover four treatments that are safe to get during pregnancy. Starting with one of our favorite forms of self-care: facials and aesthetics!
Yes, you can get facials and aesthetic treatments when you’re pregnant and/or breastfeeding. (And if you’re feeling stressed, or suffering from pregnancy acne, we recommend it!)
Our Deep-Cleansing Facial removes dull, surface skin cells, stimulates circulation, and decongests clogged pores. It’s also incredibly relaxing to come in, lie back, and let someone else take care of your skin.
Our Deep-Cleaning Facial is ideal for skin that is frequently exposed to the elements or is prone to breakouts. During this treatment, the skin is cleansed and hydrated, extractions are performed if needed, and then the service is followed by a nourishing mask and completed with a light moisturizer and sunscreen.
Yes, when you’re pregnant, you can get a (modified) Salt Facial. The SaltFacial is a 3-step process to restore, replenish, and rejuvenate all skin types. For all patients, the SaltFacial process begins with an all-natural sea salt skin exfoliation. The second step normally involves the application of a chemical which is driven a little deeper into the skin with ultrasound. For our pregnant patients, this second step is modified to include enzymes in place of a chemical. The SaltFacial ends with high-intensity LED light therapy.
This treatment is great for those who suffer from acne flare-ups. The salt is antibacterial, and the LED lights can help with both acne and redness on the face.
If you want to exfoliate your skin during pregnancy, dermaplaning may be right for you! This non-invasive skin exfoliating treatment gently removes the outermost layer of skin and creates a refreshed, rejuvenated look for all skin types. Not only does it exfoliate the skin, but it also removes “peach fuzz.” And don’t worry—the hair will NOT grow back darker or thicker.
Our advanced medical-grade form of microdermabrasion, DermaSweep MD, is amazing and safe for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. DermaSweep works by “sweeping” away the dead skin layer, resulting in a deeper exfoliation and polish of your skin. The increased blood flow encourages collagen formation, thus firming and toning your skin. This machine is safer than other microdermabrasion devices to use on patients with rosacea and those who have sensitive skin. Microdermabrasion is completely painless, and afterwards you may feel a slight tingling or tightening, which is completely normal.
Now that we’ve covered what medspa treatments are safe during pregnancy, you may be wondering what treatments are not safe during pregnancy…
Basically, all other treatments. So injectables and laser treatments are off-limits during pregnancy. And here’s the thing: it’s not that Botox is known to be harmful when you’re pregnant; it’s just that there is no medical research to say if it is safe or not. This is because it would be unethical to run a medical trial for such treatments on pregnant women. So, with no research to guide decision making, we will fall on the side of caution every time. At DermacareHR, we prioritize the safety and well-being of each patient above all else.
